Kou Wainohia
Isandil
Archila (Language Teacher)
Kou Wainohia was born within the tribe, her mother, Konia,
having been a foreign slave before an Amazon raid set her free to
join the tribe under the rule of Latra Lysippe. Though she may
have been bred of her father, she was born of her mother's love
for the tribe; thus was named Kou Wainohia in her own
language. Her mother has also tattooed her birth tribe's
marks upon Kou's upper thighs on the off chance she ever finds
Konia's people. These are always hidden by her clothing.
Kou is a very tall woman, standing over six foot tall, with a
mass of curly black hair with reddish glints and eyes so brown you
could lose yourself in their depths; she is a striking person a
bit more dark-complexioned than any of her athelfis due to her
mother's heritage.
When she was a small child she was quite precocious and
followed our Isandil Archila around mimicking her and asking
questions. As a result, it was decided that she would become
the Isandil Koritsi and so Clymene has had her wandering the world
for the past 20 years learning the languages and customs of
civilization and a few of the barbaric Northern tribes as well.
She has recently returned to find that most of her childhood
friends have forgotten her (except Deoris) and that she has
another athelfi. She has renewed her fealty to Latra Jadea
and is waiting to teach the paros of her athelfis. Most
people think her reserved and intimidating, but around friends she
has a sharp wit and an easy laugh.
When teaching, she wears Samite outfits with much golden
embroidery and jewels and goes barefoot except for the dancing
bells she loves on her ankles. When preparing for battle, she
changes into her short, side-slit leather skirt and leather halter
with bear fur boots and also wears armbands and bracelets of
beaten silver to distract her enemies and make music for her
fighting. When she is not teaching, she always has her sword
and several daggers handy. She also enjoys watching Deoris paint.
Kou's totems are the cat and the eagle. Kou's favored weapons
are the sword, daggers and knives. Kou shares her home with her
teacher and mentor Clymene, her twins, and her friend Chou. She
has a cat named Maka Mai Hina Hina. She rides a gray Lusitano mare
named Hina and has a colt named Tofikila Ani. Kou speaks too many
languages to list and can both read and write them.
