Potami Verlisi (River Guard)

Sarai was born of a Themiscyran Amazon and a young trader who frequently passed through, Elijah. They fell madly in love and the Queen permitted them to mate, which produced Sarai.

As the years passed and Elijah became more successful, the two drifted apart emotionally, but remained tied through their daughter. When she reached the age of 8, Elijah began taking the girl with him. She spent summers and the occasional winter traveling with her father and learning the business of trading from him. Sarai is very close to both of her parents and secretly wishes that they would reconcile.

Over time, it became apparent that Elijah wanted Sarai to inherit his business. He secretly wants to convince her to leave the tribe and truly take over for him. It became a source of contention between him and Sarai’s mother, with each trying to pull Sarai in vastly different directions.

Her father has three other children by another woman, Nathaniel, who is a little older than Sarai; Anaya, who is a little younger than Sarai; and Raquel, who is the baby of the family and still in her teens. Sarai and her siblings share a fractured relationship since they did not grow up in the same house. Nathaniel in particular despises her for their fathers want for her to inherit the business and not him, which is hiss right as the eldest. Her sister Anaya longs to be looked upon as dotingly by her father. The sibling that Sarai has a good relationship with is her youngest sister Raquel who longs to be just like Sarai and wishes to be able to be an Amazon.

Sarai’s mother has tried to keep her away from the family power struggles all her life, but has never denied Sarai the right to see her other siblings. Sarai’s mother is now looking for Sarai to find a mate and begin her own family. Her two greatest dreams for her daughter are for her to have a position of power within the tribe and a daughter of her own to carry on the family. She hopes that a family will root Sarai firmly in the tribe and make the possibility of going over to her father less attractive.

Sarai stopped traveling with her father about four years ago, choosing instead to focus on her Amazon career. She has moved up the ranks of guard to become a River Guard, and has her eye set on a River Guardian position. She has kept in touch with her younger sister, Raquel, through letters, but is estranged from the other two.

Sarai is 24, with black hair and green eyes. Of average height, she is slim and fit from being physically active all of her life. She favors the sais and is a follower of Athena. Her totem is the white tiger.
