Tern and her twin, Pelee, were raised and learned to control the power they both possessed. Unlike her twin, Tern also studied the art of war and participated in many of her own. She came to thrive on battle and used her powers only when her own strength would not serve.

A cousin of the Queen of Themiscyra, Tern lost her sister to slavers while they were in their young teens. To help with her loss, Lysippe gave Tern the guardianship of her youngest daughter, Medea.

Tern threw herself into training Medea in the ways of battle and of what magic the child could learn. Meanwhile, her own power and skills increased. Still, she never forgot the sister who had been stolen from her.

When Lysippe announced the tribe would be moved, Tern declined to go with them. Instead, she set out on her journey to find Pelee. This took many years, and was, in the end, a fruitless search.

Tern has flaming red hair with a shock of gray through it which mirrors the color of her eyes. A powerful witch, she would rather crack a skull than recite a spell.
