Alana
Priestess
of Apollo
Oracle
of Delphi
Latra of Sibyls (Queen
of Sibyls)
Daughter of Phaedra, Sister of Fedora and
Charis, Mother of Latrina
The youngest of three kids raised by their mother,
Alana was the daughter of Queen Phaedra of the Amazon tribe
Sibyls. They lived in a village called Ambracia. While Phaedra was
a great Queen, she was emotionally distant from her three
daughters. For her, it was always about the tribe and her children
were barely a second thought.
Alana was quick with her temper and outspoken. She
was very stubborn, but she cared immensely about her sisters and
tribe. One day while she was out near the river, she was spied by
the Sun God himself. Taken aback by her beauty, he could only
stare at her. As he was watching her, he noticed the Amazon was
wearing the mark of the tribe's Queen. He immediately went to
his sister Artemis as she was the patron Goddess of the Amazon
nation and asked that she grant him leeway with this particular
Amazon. Artemis allowed him his dalliance, and sent a message
through her High Priestess that Alana was favored in Apollo's eyes
so the girl should be sent to Delphi for proper training.
Phaedra allowed Alana to go. She was proud that one of her
daughters had caught the eye of a God. Then turned her attentions
toward her other two daughters and began to push them harder and
insisted they practice their fighting skills, for they were next
in line. Fedora and Charis grew close in the years Alana was gone
and learned to lean on one another for support.
Alana was treated kindly in Delphi and treasured immensely
among the temple. She was schooled in healing, music, and
prophecy, and she was treated as royalty. Apollo gave her a
special power, to see into the future, but which gave her blinding
headaches. Because of Apollo’s special power Alana became the
next in line to become the Delphic Oracle.
Before that could happen, tragedy struck her family. Charis had fallen in love with a man from an army that Phaedra had declared war on.
Phaedra banished her daughter in a rash decision and Charis and her lover ran off together.
In the aftermath of the banishment, Fedora declared she would not take the right of caste from her
mother, who had clearly gone crazy having banished one of her own daughters for loving a man. Phaedra sent a messenger to Delphi to notify Alana, she did not believe any one should become Queen of her tribe with out being of her blood line.
While she loved her life in the temple she knew her tribe must
always come first. So with a heavy heart she left Delphi and
headed back home. Apollo gave her a special parting gift - a
beautiful snow owl named Calypso and the ability to talk to her.
He promised to look after Alana’s children, should she have any,
and gift them with the same ability to see the future.
When Alana arrived back in Ambracia, she found that Phaedra was
near death and raving mad, and her mother begged Alana to take the right of
caste. having grown up in the village and knew the ways of the Amazon life, though it was knowledge she had long ago locked away. Alana knew her mother was desperate to see her bloodline succeeded her in the ruling of the Sibyls. Alana accepted the right of cast out of a responsibility to her mother although her love was with Apollo and his Temple, she gave it up to honor her mother’s dying wish.
While she gave up her life in Delphi she never quit paying homage to Apollo and honoring him. Secretly, her heart always yearned to return to him and his temple.
Still, Alana’s first act as Queen was to release Fedora from the
death sentence from and make her Regent of the tribe.
As the years went on Alana was coupled with a suitable mate and
bore a daughter whom she named Latrina. Knowing Apollo would be
true to his word, Alana took care to teach her daughter all the
knowledge and wisdom she had gained at Delphi. Alana worked with
her daughter to sharpen her prophetic gift, doting on Latrina and
spending as much time as possible with her.
Latrina was just like Alana in so many ways. She was quick to
temper, stubborn, and had a strong sense of duty and
loyalty.
While Alana never truly mended her relationship with Fedora it
was bearable. She simply ignored the way Fedora became cold and
distant to her and the rest of the tribe.
Rumor, a woman full of strife and hatred, took notice and
sucked Fedora in with lies, convincing her that Alana was a witch
who had abandoned both Charis and Fedora when they most needed
her. Rumor planted her seeds of discord in the village and she
managed to gain support with Fedora aiding her in any way
possible.
Alana received a vision of her impending death and asked
Latrina to take and bury her favorite possessions outside the
village. She warned her personal guard about the impending attack
so that they could save their daughters. She told them to send
their daughters far from the village so they may live.
On the night of her death, Alana passed on her right of caste
to Latrina and told her she loved her. Moments after, Rumor
entered the hut and killed Alana in front of Latrina. Apollo must
have been honoring his promise to Alana because her daughter
escaped the clutches of the evil woman.
