Ilanthea
Yevem
Archila (Chief Orchard Grower)
Ilanthea comes from Germany. By the time she was 20, both
Ilanthea's parents were deceased. Rather than live a quiet life
amid her well- meaning siblings, the spirit of adventure drew
Ilanthea away from home to seek her fortune, whatever it might be.
Her older brother, a warrior in his own right, had taught her
important fighting skills for self-defense, including the use of
an axe, which of course also served her in other ways. To earn
money for travel--whether on foot or by horse, wagon or ship--she
worked in various shops, taverns, markets, even the occasional
animal stable, but eventually found this life disappointing as
well as lonely. There were no men in Ilanthea's life--none, that
is, who had ever loved her enough to stay... The only bright spot
was her occupation as tavern singer, which served to enhance and
strengthen an already magnificent voice. Yet it wasn't enough.
When not working, she enjoyed solitary walks through woods and
over fields, was even presumptuous enough to feel tempted to climb
Mt. Olympus to see what wonders might be discovered there, even if
the gods kept themselves invisible to mortal eyes. Finally
temptation overwhelmed her and she set off on the journey toward
the mountain. But meanwhile, she had to pass through Amazon
territory. She had heard tales of the tribes of women who lived in
the woods. Border guards discovered her during a normal security
sweep and brought her in to Themiscyra. At first Ilanthea was
frightened and defensive, accustomed to being wary and alert
against enemies. When she realized that the tribe was a peaceful
nation and that everyone was friendly, she relaxed and became
interested in her surroundings. It was the first time in a long
while that she had no sense of feeling edgy or lonely...perhaps
she should look into making Themiscryra her permanent home? After
serious consideration of the matter, she applied to the Delu
Abacha to allow her to stay. And she did...
Ilanthea is medium height, about 5 feet 6 inches, small boned
and spare of frame. She has unruly ash-brown curly hair that blows
every which way in the wind, friendly yet serious hazel eyes and
an angular face that is handsome (for a woman) rather than
beautiful. There is a scar under one eye that she earned in a
fierce battle for her honor and her life, which she won by the use
of her axe... She came to the Amazons clad all in deerskin, a
tunic, trousers and boots suitable for travel and work. She wears
a woven headband to keep that unruly hair out of her eyes. Upon
arrival at Themiscyra, she was carrying in her traveling pouch a
couple of dresses, also made of functional leather, as well as
items needed in her travels. Around her long, graceful neck she
wears jewelry fashioned from the small bones of animals.
