Themiscyra and the
Amazons who populate it. Below you will find tributes to our
tribe, from our tribe.
DEORIS
Welcome to the celebration for Year 9 of
Themiscyra. This year has seen a revitalizing in the tribe
as members thought long gone returned to rejoin. The last
few months have shown growth in both the membership, and in
the members.
Efharisto tu, athelfi, for being welcoming,
warm, thoughtful, and heartfelt to those both old and new. I
know our 10th year is going to be huge - and it's all
because of you.
Please enjoy the offerings of your sisters. Do them the
courtesy of really reading, really looking, and really
watching what they put forth. Every thing here was done with
love and caring and deserves your special attention, no
matter how big or how small. There will be a Tamboo post
where you can thank your sisters for what they created and I
encourage you to do just that.
I am humbled to be your

"OUR
TRIBE"
It’s the tribe that we live in; the soil beneath our feet
From the wide open spaces to the faces of our sisters
And
we’ve come from all over, to this sacred space
It’s the tribe that we live in and its home to you and me.
It’s the first light of morning, cresting over the forest
Long lines of apple trees and hands hard at work.
It’s the steam slowly rising from the bath hut
And
a chance morning encounter
It’s the silence broken by the sound of drums
A
voice rising on the wind
With the fire light burning and the timeless stars shining
And
the roar of charging horses
It’s the tribe that we live in; the soil beneath our feet
From the wide open spaces to the faces of our sisters
And
we’ve come from all over, to this sacred space
It’s the tribe that we live in and its home to you and me.
It’s a rider resting underneath the trees
An
eagle as it saws majestically
A
see of wild flowers under the sun
It’s the smiling face of friends having fun
And it’s the tribe that we live in; the soil beneath our feet
From the wide open spaces to the faces of our sisters
We’ve come from all over, to this sacred space
It’s the tribe that we live in and its home to you and me.

ETELKA
To Themiscyra.
When I first stumbled
across the link for Themiscyra on a now deceased website I was
intrigued straight off the bat. I was an avid fan of Xena and
had been for a few years, but more over I was obsessed with
Warrior Women, and it seemed that I found people who shared in
my obsession. So I joined up, spent hours deriving a bio and
back story, and got in! And I have never never looked back.
From the late night AIM
chats where I was “cheesy” and Kardia was “idiot” (where I think
we scared more than a few new Athelfi into worrying if we were
sane or not) to the joint storylines and even meeting up and
staying with a sister in real life, this tribe had been a corner
stone of my existence since I joined those years ago. The Tribe
has been with me through some of the most dizzying highs and the
most painful of lows that I have experienced in my life, and
always I know I have been able to count on unending support and
priceless advice from my Athelfi. So to all the women who make
up this tribe, to all those who have drifted from us, and all
those left to come I Thank you. Amazons past, present, future,
you make this tribe what it is and you have all shaped or will
shape who I am. I love you all.
What is Themiscyra
and who are the women who belong to it?
The women come in every shape, size, age, and culture. They live in every part
of the world. They may or may not wield a sword, double bladed axe, or any
weapons of war. Yet they are TRUE AMAZONS in every sense of the word. Amazons
and SISTERS.
Women who spend every day at their jobs to support their family (Hunters and
Gathers)
Women who tend the wounds of their children and family when they are sick or
have hurt themselves. (Healers)
Women who fight for equal rights in the workplace, home, religious
organizations, Health Services, Schools, and governments. (Warriors)
Women who teach other women, their daughters, and grand daughters the real
meaning of being Amazon, and what the future holds for them. (Shamaness and
teachers)
Amazons living in this time of our history have the most important role of any
time in our past. To help, teach and guide all women to keep the Amazon Nation
alive forever. This will make our world a better place to live for everyone.
My second year in this special place as it celebrates 9 years brings smiles
and tears. New life and new sisters have brought joy and growth to our special
place. May the next 9 years being even better than the first nine!

SISTERHOOD
Sisterhood is not defined by money, power, or
blood. The defining variable linking the sacred bonds of
sisterhood is: honorable love. By honorable, I do mean trust and
respect. And by respect, I mean respect of her character, not
just of her station. I mistakenly placed trust in a sister whose
respect I mysteriously lost- assuming I ever held her esteem.
However, I harbor no more anger or disgust towards the one I
lost, for I know in my heart the bonds of Sisterhood are not
easily severed. If she, thinking I had in some fashion deceived
her- betrayed her, did decide to break the bonds tying us, I am
ill-equipped to coerce her to answer the call to Sisterhood. You
cannot make another believe in you as you believed in them.
Though, during my stay in Themiscyra, I
discovered the true secret of kindred spirits. We are all
individuals drawn together by the same bonds which built the
first Amazon Nation in ancient times. On rare occasion I have
wished to be an Amazon living in those times rather than these
which we are all living. Living and breathing. Some might argue
the key to life is breath; for stopping one's breath long enough
extinguishes their life, does it not? Truly we should all
breathe and breathe freely, but I would argue that merely
breathing does not mean you are living.
This Sisterhood is alive because of us. Our
loyalty to each other and respect for each other is our secret
weapon to endurance. We are not victims of pseudo-sisters who
spread vile gossip behind our backs while gabbing like long-time
girlfriends to our faces. We are not the passing acquaintances
like fleeting memories or vague relics. And we are more alike
than we even realize. But to realize how we are the same- we
need only look into each other's eyes.
An Amazon's eyes are not of any one color,
shape, or size. But within an Amazon's eyes, every Amazon's
eyes, is the same identical fire borne from the flames of
warrior women. We know what the world has called us and what
they call us today. But to those who would call us such
unbecoming names? I will say to them they should fear the days
and nights when silence falls and all can I hear the air filled
with Amazon war cries. I would tell them the Sisterhood prefers
peace, but only fools will interpret this preference for
weakness. For, we do enjoy training, sparring, combat, and
contest. We did not create the concept of war, we Amazon
Sisters. But of all the concepts worth fearing, perhaps we
Amazons are the one to fear best.
My instincts tell me to trust you- trust even
beyond the limit I think myself capable. However, I am wise
enough to admit I have been fallible and will not eagerly act in
gullible desire. To want to believe is indeed quite something to
be marked upon. But is there room in believing for knowing you
may be wrong to believe so fiercely in something? Perhaps. I
never strive to trust any one truth too completely. This
admission may be read as direct contradiction to Amazonism- but
I think the insight should be read more clearly by moonlight.
You see, I am not Amazon because I claim to be. And I am not
Amazon because I write it so. I am Amazon because my heart and
soul trust in no other code so completely and so certainly as
the Amazon's code. And within that code is the illumination of
our kindred spirit. I think I have forgotten what it meant to
love and trust the same, knowing I was loved and trusted- albeit
with a different name.
I began by proclaiming neither money nor power
nor blood can make you my sister, because true Sisterhood is not
defined by any of these or all combined. No in truth, the
definition of Sisterhood is only found within the bonded Sisters
who vow sacred oaths to love and respect each other
always...even when at odds with her sister. She will know her
sister is no more perfect than she is perfect herself, but she
will not allow contempt or temperable storms to sever the bonds
between them. I am immensely proud of the Themiscyra Amazon
tribe and our Sisterhood. Cu ena durus Tae'nah arcis!

THISBE
This video is based on the current Tavita storyline at
Themiscyra. In honor of the tribe's 9th Anniversary. Hope you
enjoy it!
Summary: Ares has promised Latra Amasis of the Aresians Amazons
Themiscyra land. While the two tribes do battle the god is busy
with plans of his own. He plans on giving the survivors of the
Amazon tribes to the Emperor as part of his hareem.
While trolling the pages of Themiscyra's website, I found
inspiration when I read past shared favorite and most memorable
moments. Please know I have far too many favorite memories in
Themiscyra to choose any one and declare it the MOST or the BEST
one I have. But for your random pleasure, here are some of my
favorite memorable moments in Themiscyra.
My first rp post in Themiscyra, which flowed
from me so painlessly and magically. I remember exactly what I
was feeling and thinking as I wrote the post introducing Jadea.
Samara, Seriana, Thalia, and Medea provided me with all the
courage and inspiration I needed to overcome my initial fear of
writing a collaborative story. Their humor, goodwill, and
creative craft offered more to me than these words express. I
suppose the closest I can describe it is: kinship.
Accidentally deleting something like 16 posts that I couldn't
recover (this was back in the net54 forum days), and Queen Celosia's response
when I told her was "Jade, calm down. Shit happens." I'd thought she be
disappointed in me and want to rip me a new one, but she showed such great
patience and appreciation of my commitment. Also, I think she knew I was
kicking my own arse pretty hard, and only a person who truly cared about the
tribe and posts would take an honest mistake so hard.
Reading Celosia's Lord of the Rings/Amazon crossover for the
first time. I'm sure she'd tell you it was just sleep-deprivation and
insomnia, but I told her it was genius. I like to think my persistent
insistence about this fact is what coaxed her into writing the next one.
Three words: The snowball fight.
Three words: Themiscyra Drinking Game. (If memory serves me
right, the original participants that night were Cassia, Deoris, myself, and
Samsara...but I may be missing someone).
Reading Winter Solstice celebration posts each year.
Fighting the Majie.
Meeting Samsara in Boston.
Collaborating with Cassia on the nok'tana. Also, Jadea's
quiet, private chitchats with Cassia.
Forging new friendships with Amazons in far away parts of the
Earth.

VALKYRA
Themiscyra,
after all these years, still encouraging feminism or Amazonian principles
By
Leinsata Valkyra
‘Twas a time long ago that warrior women rode the plains, traversed the
forests and mountains to fight the power-hungry, greedy men who wished to
steal their lands and to enslave them; the women who dared to usurp the rule
of men.
I truly believe that Themiscyra helps to encourage feminism among females
of many ages. In my opinion, to be a modern day Amazon is to be a feminist.
And the Amazon philosophy of Themiscyra shall continue to spread throughout
the planet.
Of course, we must never take this for granted. For example, if one Googles
Amazons. The first entry result is:
“Amazon.com Online shopping for electronics, apparel, etc.”
I have always resented that company for using that name. Of course, some
might say, “Well, it gets people to think about the word and use it.” Yes, it
does, but they mostly think about the river in South America.
Perhaps someday (hopefully within our lifetimes) Google will change and
have the rightful result listed first.
Another example of the ignorance of many people about Amazons is when I
tell them that I am involved in an Amazon online writing group of women which
is a “community, a virtual sisterhood”... warrior women based on history, some
legends and ‘Xena, Warrior Princess’. They say to me, “Oh, I didn’t know that
Brazil and other countries had native tribes of just Indian or Spanish women.”
But in spite of all the hardships and troubles that the Tribe has gone
through, Themiscyra, for nine years, has been and still remains a wonderful
sisterhood of friends. I truly cherish the past eight years that I have been
here and hold dear all of the wonderful women that I have known and those I
know now. I thank you for your friendship and I look forward to many years of
Themiscyra Amazon Nation!
Please note this is a story, I am not saying this is how the
Amazon race began. I just though it would be a nice story. I
hope You enjoy reading.
